How does Jungle Disk differ from other online storage and backup providers?

There are a lot of online storage and backup services out there. Here’s what sets Jungle Disk Workgroup Edition apart:

Jungle Disk is more than just backup.
Most online backup services are just that – backup services. In addition to offering secure, automated backups, Jungle Disk also makes it easy to share and sync files between multiple computers, allows you to archive data to your secure network drive, and gives you easy access via desktop, web, or iPhone.
No restrictions on what or how much you back up .
Many online storage and backup services place a maximum storage limit on your account, making it difficult or even impossible to backup large program files, media, or system files. Jungle Disk storage is truly unlimited. Our unique pay-as-you-go model ensures that you can never outgrow the service. You can also backup external drives, network drives, and NAS devices which are typically blocked by other backup services.
The best pricing for Workgroup online storage.
With other business backup providers charging $1.50 per GB or more, our 15¢ per GB price makes online storage accessible to more businesses than ever.
Licensing based on users – not computers.
Because most people work from multiple computers, Jungle Disk allows users to install our software on unlimited machines at no additional cost instead of using per-machine pricing.
Pay only for what you use, with no minimums.
Unlike services that charge on a tiered basis and make you pay for storage you don’t use, Jungle Disk asks you to pay only for the data you want to store now – not the data you might store one day. At only 15¢ per GB, you can afford to store a lot.
Complete control over user access.
Our easy online management system gives the master account-holder complete control over the information user sub-accounts can access. You can also create drives for individuals or entire departments to share and can easily manage permissions for access by authorized users. Along with detailed reporting, you have complete control over your online backup and storage solution.
Use Jungle Disk for backup, archival, or both.
While many services delete backed up data that you delete from your local drive, Jungle Disk allows you to archive files online so you can free up local space. That means movies, music, old directories, and old documents can be stored as long as you want without being on your local drive.
Jungle Disk supports Mac, Windows, and Linux-based computers - and has from day 1.
The Jungle Disk software is cross-platform, which is important even if you only use one operating system today. And, instead of treating Mac and Linux like second-class operating systems as many services do, you’ll find the same feature sets supported across all three versions. We release upgrades for all systems simultaneously. We've even done additional work to ensure that platform-specific features, such as resource forks and finder data, work like you'd expect.
Your data is truly your data.
Jungle Disk is an online storage service where the application is de-coupled from the storage and you "own" your own data. Jungle Disk is like a bridge between you and your stored data. You can choose a custom AES-256 encryption key so that all of your data is encrypted before it leaves your computer, and stays encrypted while stored. To give you even more control, we’ve even released the open source code that can be used to browse and download your data without even using Jungle Disk.

How does the Workgroup Edition differ from the Desktop Edition?

Jungle Disk Desktop Edition is designed and licensed for a single user with one or more computers. The Workgroup Edition allows you to use a single cloud storage account with multiple users by creating sub-accounts. You can set access controls on each sub-account to allow for private and shared data for your users. Although you can install the Desktop Edition on multiple computers, all users will have full access to all data. The Workgroup Edition also provides per-user reporting of bandwidth and disk usage.

Why do I need Jungle Disk? Can I just use your cloud storage providers directly?

The power of Jungle Disk is that it is designed to make it as easy as possible to use cloud storage by integrating it directly into your local file system like any other drive. The automatic backup feature also makes it easy to keep your important files securely backed up. More importantly, our block-level de-duplicating process greatly increases download efficiency and decreases storage space by only backing up files that have changed since the last backup.
